Welcome to my web portfolio!
Thank you for visiting! This is the newest iteration of my website. I decided to dive into the more modern HTML5 and CSS3 with an emphasis on cross-browser compatibility to see how the new technology stacks up. Because not all browsers view content the same way, several concessions had to be made in the way the style sheet and multimedia files were handled to ensure that as many people could view this page as possible. Everything had to be triple coded in order to cover all the bases. As it turns out, the best browser view comes from Google Chrome. It was quite fun getting all the pieces in here. I highly encourage you to view the source to see why.
CSS3 has brought some great new features that you can see here. The rounded borders around the content areas and buttons allow for a more fluid look. I remember when it took eight images in a carefully aligned table to achieve this same look. The ability to perform the drop-shadows and glowing effects on the buttons and text reduces the amount of graphics creation needs which, in turn, keeps bandwidth requirements lower.
There have been some tag changes with HTML5. I have incorporated them throughout the code. The header is now <header>. The navigation bar is <nav>. The social media window is in an <aside>. This text sits in a <section> within an <article>. Finally, the footer is now known as the <footer>. The primary benefits to these tags are the ability to better label the code and only have to worry about element styles.
Also included on this page are an HTML5 embedded video and custom font! This part was very exciting although a bit disappointing in the end. The embedded video is not nearly as supported as I'd like it to be and there seems to be issues with the controls attribute. For a functioning site, a wrapper would have to be placed over the video file. I will be uploading an HTML5 embedded audio file soon to test that out as well. I can't wait to see the next updates!
